Introducing… The Noust

Tiree Maritime Trust are delighted to present, The Noust.

‘The Noust’ has been chosen by the Trust directors as the name for the brand new boat house.

A Noust is a Viking word for a boat shelter, where long boats would have been pulled up for winter.

The end of a long week

Yesterday, Friday 28 June was a very long day for the Tog Studio team. Against all the odds, including mist, a cold northerly wind and extreme tiredness, they did it!

The Boat House was completed late last night against the backdrop of a roaring bonfire – well done guys!

Sadly the camera conked out and I don’t have a picture of the Tog crew – hopefully I’ll manage to pinch one off some else…

Nearly there…

The Boat House is looking ever closer to a finished project. Two sides are complete, and work has begun on cladding the gables and adding doors.

In exciting news, a name has also been chosen, but you’ll need to wait until tomorrow before finding out what it is…

We have walls!

A site visit this afternoon revealed one fully clad wall and one in progress, as well as a nearly completed roof. Things are beginning to move really fast! We are sorry to say goodbye to some of the team who began the week, but excited to welcome a group of new faces who arrived fresh off the ferry ready to work.

The project has also been featured on the BBC Alba news page today – http://www.bbc.co.uk/naidheachdan/23065713

Not only that, we are nearly at our target for this week of 100 likes on our facebook page. If you haven’t liked us already, please do… https://www.facebook.com/TireeMaritimeTrust

Topping out and raising the sail

The roof of the new Boat House has been started and to celebrate, the Morag Anne was taken for a sail this evening.

The project is also going to feature on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal tomorrow morning as part of the morning news programme, Aithris na Maidne (0700-0900) – listen if you can!

Here comes the sun…

The weather has improved, and the Boat House just keeps getting better – it is looking every inch a building now.

If you are in Tiree, do pop down to have a look – and whether you are in Tiree or not, please do ‘like’ our facebook page – it would be brilliant to get to 100 likes before work finishes on Friday!

The Boat House starts to take shape

In very exciting news, a visit to the Boat House site at 1pm revealed the four frames standing tall and well braced against the wind.

A fantastic achievement considering today’s gusts at over 30mph.

Keep it up, guys!
